It is 9:15 AM on a Monday morning and I am running late to work. Did I wake up late? No. Did I set your alarm? Yes. Just couldn’t muster the energy to move quicker to actually arrive on time. Sadly, this not the first time I have been late to work. In reality, I haven’t been on time for several months.
Even when I am at work, I feel distracted, lacking motivation and downright wishing I was anywhere else but at work.
Does this sound familiar? Sadly, there are many people living their lives day after day like this. Going through the motions of their lives without a clear purpose of why they are doing what they do each and every day. Add a unsatisfying job to the mix and we really feel lost.
We know when it is time to make a change in our lives. There are plenty of times why we “rationalize” it is too hard to make a change. What if I can’t get a new job? What if the new job ends up being worse? Will I like a new job? Maybe I should stay?
There are endless scenarios that can come to your mind. I have a big what if for you:
What if You Could be Happy?
Despite our natural inclination to doubt that things could be better. What if things could be better? What if you could make more money? Have a better harmony between work and life? What if you could look forward to starting your day?
Are You Willing to Try?
If the answer to this question is Yes, here is a checklist of questions you should answer for yourself if you sincerely think it is time to shake things up!
It is a very simple question that is usually answered with a more complex answer. You either like your job or you don’t. The question isn’t whether you like your paycheck. As you read this question, what is your answer?
Do you like who you work with?
Our net worth is very much made up of our network. Who we work with can have quite the impact on us. How would you rate your coworkers?
Do you like your boss (or if you are the boss, do you like being the leader of the ship)?
The funny thing about work is that you never know what you like or don’t like until you’re actually in the thick of it. How do you know if you want to be your own boss? if you are like me, then that question will be quickly answered after working for someone else on a full-time basis. Now more than ever, people are embracing the fact that they will have a day job while they start a business or side gig for the extra cash or added flavor in life. If you haven’t thought about that route, do you know what you want when it comes to your work life?
Have you thought about changing your job?
If you want to make a change at work, I am here to tell you that it is OKAY. Sometimes, it might seem like you can’t say something isn’t for you. But, that is not true. If you are currently at your work desk wishing that you were somewhere else, be honest and ask yourself why you feel this way. Are you having a bad day? Are you bored? Do you feel like you should be doing something else with your life? If you seriously are looking for a change, you will need to figure out the root of this feeling.
If you want a new job or a change in your life, the first I want you to do is breathe. Then I want you to prepare your mind for what you are setting out to do. Then you need to STRATEGIZE. We can all want things in life. But, are you willing to put in the work to make it happen? Are you going to network 1-2 times a week? Is your resume updated? How many different versions of your resume do you have? Have you tapped into your personal and professional network to help you make the change needed? And, what is your deadline? When will you be starting this new opportunity in your life?
