I have loved movies all my life. They have such a profound effect on so many of us. Sometime we cry, laugh, smile, stare or jump out of our seats. In a word, I find movies to be UNFORGETTABLE. The images cannot be unwatched. Instead, they linger in our minds. We revisit specific scenes over and over again. Seeing what makes most sense to our own personal lives and connecting the dots to how it affects others in our life.
So, I thought it was only fitting to share life lessons I learned from my favorite flicks.
There are a lot of life lessons one can take from Titanic. For me, the most important was the relationship between Jack and Rose. Before Rose met Jack, she was boarding Titanic with a man she didn’t love and a mother who refused to let her make decisions out of her own fear and greed. Then everything changed when she met Jack. Finally, she met someone who refused to let her to accept the notion that she couldn’t live the life she wanted. It was their love that made her fight to get out of her existing life and actually fight to live, period.
Lesson Learned: Always fight for the life you want and deserve
I am a die hard horror movie lover. Why? I believe they illustrate what people are really made of. In my opinion, there is no greater story than Halloween. Michael Myers chased Laurie Strode for years and years. Laurie played by Jamie Lee Curtis (aka Scream Queen) showed women everywhere that while things can come for you over and over and over again, it is up to you to fight and defeat it each time.
Lesson Learned: You can overcome anything that comes your way
Little Women is a movie that makes me cry every time I watch it. If you haven’t watched it before or in a long time, I urge you to do so. I fell in love with Jo’s uncanny ability to write and bring her writing to life. Watching her made me want to share my voice as she did.
Lesson Learned: Don’t be afraid to pursue your passions in life
Beauty and the Beast is one of my all time favorite movies. I watch it as many times as possible because it is a constant reminder of so many things. To name a few: love is possible, people are capable of change, and life is full of the unexpected.
Lesson Learned: Always look beyond the outside to see what a person is made of. You may be surprised at what you see when you really get to know someone.
Have you seen A League of Their Own? This classic film is all about leadership, feminism, and gender inequality and is a great film for both men and women.
Lesson Learned: It is simple leaders lead. Through their leadership they inspire and show others how they can lead as well
Fried Green Tomatoes….This movie is EPIC. We are talking racism, feminism, friendship, sisterhood, womanhood. The themes go on and on. If you want a real good crying session, this the perfect pick. Through all the pain and joy in this movie the friendship and love between Idgie and Ruth mesmerizes me till this day. This movie shows what true love and devotion looks like. What wouldn’t you do for someone you love?
Lesson Learned: Love is the utmost emotion we are honored to feel and give
I have watched Creed at least 25 times. I adore Michael B. Jordan and I was completely head over heels with seeing how the Rocky series will live on. This movie is filled many themes that truly touch home. We are all more than our parents and it is up to us to make our future what we want it to be.
Lesson Learned: You have a purpose and it is up to you to define what it is supposed to be
Now that I have shared my 7 favorite flicks and how they have impacted me. I can’t wait to hear what you think!

P.S. Stay tuned for other life lessons we can’t ignore from other flicks 😉
