Fashion is a very personal and unique opportunity that you have to show the world who you are – and it’s an opportunity that can last for a second, a minute, and beyond! I like to think of it as a resume that I carry with me wherever I go; a way for me to share a piece of myself with the countless strangers that I may never actually speak or interact with throughout my life.
These are 8 “rules” that I’ve developed over the years that have helped me become who I am both “fashionally” and personally. I hope they will inspire you to explore fashion in a way that both fulfills you personally and allows you to have fun!
Rule #1 – Be Confident!
Like everything else in life, you have to face each day ready to rumble because you are 100% fabulous and no one else can or should tell you otherwise. But we all have our off days where we may not necessarily feel as great as we truly are – in that case, fake it ’till you make it! (hold your head high and smile because, well, it actually WILL make you feel that much better!)
Rule #2 – Be True to Who You Are
The best part of fashion is that you can make it yours! Finding the colors and styles that match your personality and preferences will make you look like the best version of you! For us curvy girls, that means truly understanding our body and the types of clothing and accessories that will make us look as good as we feel!

Rule #3 – Think Outside of the Box
Don’t be afraid to go where no one else has gone before! We all wear dresses, pants, blouses, skirts, shoes etc…but there are so many unique and creative designers and pieces out there that anyone can find something that speaks to their specific tastes these days! Be Daring…Be Bold! It may take a little bit of searching but that’s what we’re here for and it will be worth it : )
I particularly like these unique “out of the box” pieces – click on each to purchase!
Rule #4 – Don’t Dress For Anyone Else But You
We all have people in our lives who are not shy about telling us how they feel about what we are wearing…but there’s a fine line between a constructive opinion and just plain ol’ negativity. There’s only one critic you should be concerned about…YOU! Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t feel good about yourself because of what you’re wearing.
This is just a sampling of my personal aesthetic relating to accessories – you can click on each item to purchase if this fits you too!
Rule #5 – Never Doubt Your Intuition
You know what works for you. If the world approves of a look on you and you don’t like it…or think something is not right…GO WITH YOUR GUT! One of the strongest traits a woman has is her intuition. Doubt others before you question yourself!
Rule #6 – Establish A Relationship with Fashion
We spend the time getting to know our parents, friends, and lovers. But, what about our relationship with fashion? Do you know all the materials that you are allergic to? What colors look best on you? What you are willing to do and what is just a little too risque? If not, then it is never too late to start figuring out what kind of relationship you want to have with fashion; personally, I can tell you that it’s not always smooth sailing and there are definite bumps along the way, but once the connection has been established, it is truly a love affair.

Rule #7 – Fashion is an Extension of Who You Are
Who are you to the world in a fashion sense? Are you chic? Bohemian? Urban? Classic? All of the Above? Maybe a little more? Why label yourself? Be whoever you want to be – create your own label and own it! Your life is your fashion show…lights, cameras…action!

Rule #8 – Always..Always…Always Have Fun!
Whether you are dressing for your job, an interview, a night out with the girls, or a night out with your partner…remember to laugh and have fun! If not, then what’s the point of it all? If fashion stresses you out, re-read this post. If that’s still not working, then call or email me! My mission in life is to make sure that you have a big smile on your face when you’re in that dressing room or in your closet.
I hope you enjoyed the post. Feel free to share a comment with your favorite fashion rules that make you the fabulous diva you are!
